Minimum Education
Registered Nurse degree form an accredited school of nursing.

Minimum Work Experience
Previous experience as a charge nurse or supervisor is desired, but not required. Two years clinical experience with demonstrated skills in nursing and administrative personnel management is required. Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. Requires ability to use independent judgment and to make sound decisions; demonstrated leadership ability; ability to work under stressful situations; good oral and written communication skills.

Required Licenses
[Mississippi, United States] Registered Nurse
Registered nurse current Mississippi RN license required. Certification in specialty area desirable.

Essential Functions

Promotes staff empowerment and public relations.
Direct and coordinates the activates of the nursing service department on assigned shift.
Informs department head or administrator, when appropriate, of critically ill patients, serious incidents, problems in the physical plant, and all situations such as fire or disasters requiring administrative action.
Performs administrative and/or department head duties in their absence administering policies fairly and equitably.
Staffs nursing units appropriately according to census.
Assures employee cooperation and compliance with hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Maintains currently in professional/ technical areas pertaining to nursing.
Promotes customer satisfaction.
Communicates to appropriate leadership, issues that need further attention.

Non-Essential Functions

Understands personal and departmental role in hospital’s fire, safety, and disaster plans.
Supports the hospital Christian mission and philosophy.
Observes hospital dress code and maintains appropriate conduct an appearance.

Functional Demands

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty.
Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Transferring, repositioning patients.
Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions.
Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required.
Optimal auditory acuity required.
Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.
Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests.
Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances.
Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
