Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief Sonographer and the Administrator, completes all CVL Non-Invasive procedures at a technical level demonstrating mastery of technical detail that requires independent judgment and initiative.  Performs 2-D echo with color and spectral doppler with all necessary calculations.  Assists in transesophageal echo procedures.  Performs vascular studies and holter monitor hook up procedures.  Rotates call with other sonographers.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Accurately performs all cardiovascular non-invasive procedures.
  • Assists physicians with transesophageal echo procedures, and tilt tests.
  • Maintains an aseptic and sterile environment when indicated.
  • Positions and transfers patients comfortably and safely.
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
  • Assists in the quality assurance program.
  • Exhibits personal and professional motivation.
  • Respects patient privacy and maintains confidentiality.
  • Understands role in hospital’s fire, safety, and disaster plans.
  • Supports the hospital’s Christian mission and philosophy.
  • Provides a safe environment.
  • Accurately charges for procedures through hospital computer system.
  • Shares call coverage.
  • Assists in accreditation process.

 

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.  Certification in echocardiography and vascular ultrasound preferred.  Minimum of six months sonography experience or completion of credentialed ultrasound school required. Certification in basic CPR required. Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to function under stressful situations, ability to manage time and work amid frequent interruptions; good hand/eye coordination; manual dexterity; a high degree of initiative, good judgment and a pleasant manner.  Works in an appropriately lighted, well equipped department, exposed to infection and back injuries; if safety regulations are followed, hazards are minimal.  Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients’ individual needs based on medical conditions and age (infants, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric).  Must be able to push heavy equipment, and lift or move heavy supplies and/or patients.  This position has been determined to have a low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
