SDH Centralize Scheduling Manager


Job Summary

The Scheduling Manager ensures the effective and efficient operation of the Scheduling and Pre-Access departments.  The manager is responsible for ensuring a premier patient experience.  Oversees scheduling staff, insurance verifiers, precert staff, and pre-registrars.  Responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing the same. Responsible for interacting with CBO to expedite billing and Collections process.


Job Requirements


Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.


Minimum Work Experience:  Minimum three years’ experience in patient access, registration, billing, cash collections, insurance and/or pre-certification, or related experience in a revenue cycle medical environment. Minimum two years supervisory required.

Essential Functions


Manages the day to day functions of the Central Scheduling and Pre Registration staff including: Monitoring for timely and accurate appointment scheduling for physician offices; Timely answering of phone calls in to the unit. Assist in educating all new clerical employees. Coordinates processing of paperwork and records changes among several departments. Enters and retrieves data from established computer files. Maintains an adequate filing system so that information can be quickly retrieved. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Demonstrates leadership ability and serves as resource to all personnel. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. Accurate and timely verification of insurance benefits assigned to the hospital to determine if insurance coverage meets standards of treatment as stated in hospital policy. Works with utilization review to coordinate PPO, Medicaid and Medicare information. Compiles and distributes information regarding patient’s personal, insurance and financial status. Works with other members of Patient Access Management staff to identify potential issues and improve process as they relate specifically to Central Scheduling and Pre-Registration.. Ability to drive/ travel to multiple locations/ facilities as needed.


Nonessential Functions


Understands personal and departmental role in hospital's fire, safety, and disaster plans. Supports the hospital Christian mission and philosophy. Observes hospital dress code and maintains appropriate conduct and appearance. Participates in and supports established Performance Improvement Program Attend JACHO required and hospital mandatory in-service programs. Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding patients, families, physicians and hospital personnel.


Functional Demands


Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 10-15 pounds with or without assistance. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control an ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
