JOB SUMMARY

Reviews ordered respiratory care modalities for appropriateness and efficacy and makes recommendations for possible improvements. Serves as an integral participant on designated hospital committees and work groups. Assists in planning and evaluation of future department needs and direction. Reports to Administrative Director - Pulmonary Services.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Graduate of accredited program in Respiratory Therapy. BA/BS preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

5 years experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Required Licenses

[Mississippi, United States] Respiratory Therapists

NRBC - RRT registration, in addition to current licensure by the Mississippi Department of Health preferred. NBRC ACCS or Certified COPD/Asthma Education preferred.

 

Required Skills

Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. BLS/ACLS required.

Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.

Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvements and control and safety.

Is an active participant in reducing LOS and readmissions of pulmonary patients.

Routinely coordinates and evaluates the efficacy of ordered respiratory care modalities; appropriate forwards recommendations to ensure that patient care is tailored to their individual needs.

Is available as a consultant for staff members, patients, family members and physicians.

Reports findings of above to Team Leader, Shift Leader, Quality/Performance Coordinator or Administrative Director of Pulmonary Services.

In their absences, can perform duties of Director. Participates on various hospital committees as requested.

Participates as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team in the management of patients, information and professional relations within the institution.

Consults with medical and nursing staff, patients and their families on a regular basis to coordinate patient care.

Participants in staff education and assures staff competency.

Maintains personnel, professional and institutional certification and regulatory requirements by attending conferences, committee meetings, personal development training and attending outside educational programs.

Performs other duties as assigned or requested. Assists with interviewing and hiring process.

 

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty.

Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Transferring, repositioning patients.

Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions.
