The MS Coordinator is a clinically competent Registered Nurse who schedules and manages all aspects of the multiple sclerosis patient’s care, as well as all infusion patients including but not limited to: MS, MG, Brain Tumors, NMO and GBS. They coordinate treatments and infusions as well as order labs and keep track of levels that require close monitoring. Responsible for enrollment in drug specific programs for patients. Daily nurse visits which include, but not limited to: IV access, labs drawn, education about drugs and treatments; ensuring that a patient is not sick or having any major changes or reactions to treatment; checking that scans, labs and appointments are kept up to date. Responsible for daily faxes and phone calls. Maintaining the inventory and drugs in the infusion lab. Daily briefings with the physician regarding coordinating patients' care. Reports to the Office Manager and/or Director. Infusion experience is a plus.

Minimum Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Required Licenses[Mississippi, United States] Registered Nurses
Current licensure in good standing in the state of Mississippi. Current CPR required. CNOR preferred. ACLS preferred.

Required Skills
Requires oral and written communication skills.

Essential Functions:

Ensures that departmental policies and procedures are carried out. Participates in professional organization and /or performs educational inservices to team members. Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in specialty. Identify and coordinate the needs of service-specific surgeons through scheduled meetings with each surgeon. Functions on a daily basis as an expert in his/her specialty, in both the scrubbing and circulating role.Performs direct patient care as indicated by the surgery schedule and staffing level.Takes call with other RN's as needed.Acts as a resource person for team members to facilitate problems solving in the operating room. Conducts or coordinates with nurse educator, inservices for all new procedures , equipment, products, and instrumentation. Creates a positive learning environment of new team members. Actively participates in educating and mentoring colleagues and team members to the job or team duties.Utilizes knowledge and skills to facilitate warranted change.Notify Surgery Control Desk when each room on service is at a pre-op point. Monitor and coordinate the turnaround time process through staffing utilization with the implementation of teams and Surgical Aides.
Facilitates the organized and timely transfer of patients.Adjusts staffing levels relative to patient flow and collaborates with the Surgery Control Desk to make case assignments based on need and expertise. Makes necessary changes to resource maps for specialty services. Contributes to performance evaluations for personnel utilized in specialty service, utilizing the coaching and counseling process. Initiates action to manage staff conflicts and assists other staff as necessary in managing conflicts. Seeks assistance from the Nurse Manager when unable to fully resolve conflicts with personnel. Supports cost containment efforts of the hospital through conservation of supplies and care of capital equipment. Submits capital equipment needs to Director.
