Job Summary:

Plans, directs, and manages: respiratory care, pulmonary functions, EKG, EEG, cystometrics, hyperbarics and wound management, sleep disorders, nutritional and pulmonary stress testing. Responsible for fiscal, clinical and professional interrelationships for department function and performance. Complies with and assures department compliance with JCAHO standards. Directs and plans all department education in services and quality improvement activities. Assures that all age groups are served professionally and competently within the specific age group served; i.e., pediatric, adult and geriatric, as well as stabilization of neonates. Reports to Senior Vice President for Professional Services.

Job Requirements:

Graduate of an AMA-approved respiratory care program, bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum five years practice as a respiratory care practitioner and three years experience as a respiratory care supervisor required; department management experience preferred. Must be able to satisfactorily perform all aspects of respiratory care within age-specific scope.

Current Mississippi license for respiratory care practice and registry by National Board for Respiratory Care

Essential Functions:

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Develops department goals and objectives and established and implements policies and procedures for department operation. Establishes performance standards and goals, allocates resources and assesses policies for direct subordinates. Evaluate performance of all employees with direct reporting relationships. Staff the department appropriately and coordinates departmental orientation of new personnel. Evaluates all treatment and reporting methods of the department and oversees quality improvement activities. Provides for continued professional/competency development of department staff. Consults with medical, nursing and administrative staff on a regular basis to coordinate patient care. Ensures the delivery of quality patient care for inpatients and outpatients by identifying patient needs and developing quality treatment programs. Develops and manages department operating budget and ensures operation within established fiscal policy. Monitors variance against budget on an ongoing basis. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic report hospital management, as required. Assures departmental compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.Performs duties and technical procedures as a therapist as needed. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, inservice meetings and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trend in field of expertise.Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meeting as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as a hospital respensentative.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
