Reports to the Director of Quality and Performance Improvement and partners with the Medical Director for Infection Prevention, VP of Medical Affairs & Quality/CMO, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.

Manage the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation/continuous improvement of the Infection Prevention and Control program. Perform job duties in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision and values, and strategic goals. Provide oversight of daily operations of the infection control office. Ensure that the annual infection control plan is evidence-based and provides prevention, surveillance, and control for the organization in accordance with regulatory standards, safe patient care optimization and organizational strategic goals.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology (clinical laboratory science) or nursing.

Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of five (5) years experience in the infection prevention discipline and five (5) years leadership experience.

Licenses/Registration: Mississippi R.N. license required, or MT or MLS level registration required.

Required Skills: demonstration of data analysis and synthesis skills, sound clinical judgment, effective leadership skills, and excellent communication skills. Proven skills in human relations, communications, and change theory application: demonstrated effectiveness in collaboration with leaders, physicians and front-line colleagues.


Direct and coordinate the efforts of the Infection Prevention and Control staff and state department of health in managing epidemiologic significant events and exposures and limiting the spread of communicable infections and infectious disease.Collaborate with and develop strategies and recommendations to leadership and departmental staff to ensure compliance with regulatory and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains the flow of information regarding all Infection Prevention and Control issues. Ensure and oversee timely and accurate completion of all routine reports and projects including the department’s participation in root cause analysis or performance improvement projects as appropriate. Identify and implement Infection Prevention and Control goals and objectives related to surveillance, data analysis and reporting, Infection Prevention and Control practices, strategies and tactics that eliminate potential hazards and reduce the risks of and prevention of healthcare associated infections in patients, employees, licensed independent practitioners and visitors. Provide overall operational leadership for the department and provides consultation on the appropriate selection of products and equipment. Serve as an internal consultant/expert on Infection Prevention and Control; pursues excellence in influencing, supporting, and improving the quality of healthcare through the practice management of infection control, education, and the application of epidemiology principles and research. Prepare, deliver, and ensure compliance to budget. Leads educational objectives directed at intervention to reduce infectious risk for the hospital. Ensure that monitors are in place for the hospital environment to ensure appropriate cleanliness and to reduce the potential for transmission of infections. Maintain the flow of information to departmental staff of issues pertaining to or arising from continuous survey readiness personnel, state and federal department of health personnel, and Joint Commission. Serve on multiple committees related to the Environment of Care, patient care, and Quality/Performance Improvement to improve patient care or work areas. Presents and educates/discusses data and presentations related to Infection Prevention and Control trends (internal and external), patterns, successes, and opportunities for improvement. Perform research and analysis relative to Infection Prevention and Control issues to facilitate the formulation of policies, procedures, and programs to reduce infectious morbidity for St. Dominic Hospital. Work collaboratively and provide guidance to facilities and other Environment of Care leaders to ensure a safe environment for patients, their families, our colleagues, and the community.
