Job Summary:

Manages the Cardiac Catherization Lab Department; establishes and adheres to policies, procedures, standards and objectives for the provision of diagnostic and interventional services. Assists in the management of human and material resources, the development of personnel, and adherence to the regulatory and professional standards. Leads in promoting the Christian mission of healing and nurturing in the department, in the organization, and in the community. Reports to the Director of St Dominic MS Heart and Vascular Institute.

Job Requirements:

 

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree preferred or Associate’s degree or graduate of radiologic technology program required or Bachelor's degree preferred or Associate’s degree with requisite experience from an accredited school of nursing.  with requisite experience from an accredited school of nursing or accredited school of radiology. Minimum of five years' clinical expertise required. Current Mississippi RN license or radiology technician license required; ACLS: certification in specialty area desirable.

 

Required Licenses

Current Mississippi RN license required; certification in specialty area desired

For Radiology technician Maintains current Registry and Mississippi State License; certification in specialty area desirable

 

Organizational Expectations:

Manages the quality of the catheterization lab service administratively.

Actively involved in the recruitment, selection and induction process of new staff. Ensures any staff engaged to work in the departments are appropriately orientated & that all relevant checks are undertaken prior to commencement of shift.
Manages department with fiscal responsibility in accordance to budgets.

Directs/Leads staff in providing clinical and operational services to ensure patient care is appropriate and provided in a timely, cost-effective manner

 

Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.
Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.
Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.
Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

 

Essential Functions:

Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions and operation improvements.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Ensures the delivery of quality services in area of operations. Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation to medical, nursing, and administrative staff.

Matches skill level of personnel with patient/procedure needs; schedules according to procedure volume and procedure skill/knowledge needed for specific procedures.

Directs and evaluates staff to provide safe patient care; maintains a unit environment assuring clinical excellence.
Utilizes hospital's information system; assures that budgetary guidelines are met; responsible for cost efficiency.
Promotes staff empowerment and public relations.
Promotes customer satisfaction.
Establishes and maintains communication within the department and with other hospital departments. Develops relationships with professional affiliations and others as appropriate.
Participates in quality assurance program. Establishes and maintains safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures for the department.
Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, etc.
Matches skill level of personnel with patient needs; schedules according to census, acuity, and patient safety standards.
Positions and transfers patients comfortably.
Maintains clean and orderly work areas.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Responsible for lab accreditation per JC standards.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested

 

Functional Demands:

 

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty.
Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Transferring, repositioning patients.
Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions.
Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required.
Optimal auditory acuity required.
Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.
Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests.
Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances.
Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
