The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) provides staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher across the Emergency Department. Supports the development of the bedside nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. Facilitates the educational process through assessment, development, planning, and implementation of identified educational programs, orientation programs, competency training, leadership development and continuing education. In all of the CNE's duties, collaborates and works with the Organizational and Development Educators and with other departments.
Minimum Work Experience:
Experience of greater than 3 years in nursing in an acute hospital setting. Two years management experience or leadership related position preferred.
BS degree from accredited School of Nursing is required or be currently enrolled in a BSN program. Master's in nursing or related healthcare filed is preferred. Must be an RN with a current MS license. Current BLS and ACLS Instructor preferred or applicant MUST obtain instructor status for BLS within 2 years of obtaining position. Certification by an approved nursing professional organization (CCRN, ANCC, ENC) in a clinical field preferred or applicant MUST obtain certification within 3 years of accepting position.

Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities. Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information. Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization. Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.
Prepares, organizes, directs, conduct and supervises programs for staff orientation/training and inservice education. Assesses, seeks, and implements training opportunities in the organization. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs using measurements, indicators, and participant and faculty feedback. Participates in planning the curriculum content and course outline in conformance with program objectives and accreditation standards. Lectures and gives classroom demonstrations on subjects and illustrates using audiovisual equipment, models, etc. Observes and evaluates staff performance in actual situations, and assists, guides and instructs as necessary. Prepares assignments and examinations to determine staff progress. Maintains all required staff records and prepares related reports. Complies with established nursing education policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as nursing service and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Files CE applications for continuing education credits as deemed appropriate. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Maintains department records, reports and files as required. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops. Attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. Participates in community education as requested.
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Transferring, repositioning patients. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
