Plans and aids in the nutritional care of all patients and performs as a member of the multidisciplinary care team. Provides nutritional counseling for inpatients, outpatients, and community health projects. Screens newly admitted patients to identify those at nutritional risk. Initiates nutrition recommendations per MNT Protocol. Aids in the education and training of department and hospital personnel involved in nutrition care activities. Provides education and training to dietetic interns. Exercises independents judgment under the supervision of the Clinical Dietitian Manager to the Clinical Dietitian Manager.
Requires Baccalaureate degree. Masters degree preferred.

ADA Registration or Registry-Eligible Mississippi license or provisional license is required. Must successfully pass ADA registration examination within 90 days of employment.
A knowledge of food / nutrition in a healthcare setting and clinical dietetics. Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
Assists in developing and implementing patient nutrition care plans. Ensures consistency of care plans.
Evaluates the patient's nutritional status to determine the need to revise the nutritional care plan.
Utilizes MNT protocol for initiating nutrition therapy recommendations.
Interacts professionally with patient and family. Provides nutrition teaching and counseling to patient and family in making desired changes in eating habits.
Serves as a resource to medical, nursing, health care staff, and community regarding nutritional needs. Provides education and/or in-services as needed.
Serves as coordinator of and participates daily in Nutrition Support Team services with physicians and other multidisciplinary health care professionals.
Assists in quality assurance activities including test trays, clinical monitors and clinical outcomes.
Aids with the updating of pertinent diet standards and educational material.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Documents all relevant aspects of nutritional care for patients in accordance with departmental standards.
Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Maintains departmental records, reports, and files as required.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, workshops, and attends meetings as required.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Performs all aspects of patient health care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.

Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances.
