Job Summary

Administers and maintains an active employment program for St. Dominic Health System positions.  Primary focus will be nursing but may also support ancillary, hospital support staff and other occupations. Coordinates the employment process involving interviewing, testing, screening and referring of qualified applicants to department heads and supervisors. Reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field required.

Minimum Work Experience

A minimum of five years’ experience in Human Resources, with at least three years including employment interviewing required. Experience in a health care setting is highly desirable, but not required.

Required Skills

Interaction with applicants, students, visitors, employees, supervisors, department heads, administration, as well as outside educational institutions and employment services requires strong written and oral communications skills necessary to represent the hospital with a positive public image; current knowledge of employment and labor laws.

Essential Functions

Maintains knowledge of employment law as well as current issues and trends in recruitment best practices.

Identifies candidates through the use of Boolean searches, user groups, employment boards, social media and web sourcing.

Coordinates the entire employment process including advertising, interviewing, testing, screening, reference checking and referring of qualified applicants to department heads for final selection.

Ensures that applicants are hired within established salary guidelines; that all required paperwork is completed; that a pre-employment drug screen and physical exam is taken; and that the employee is scheduled for employee orientation.

Plans and implements recruitment activities, including but not limited to participating in college career days, job fairs and other appropriate networking activities to promote awareness of career opportunities at St. Dominic Hospital and Health Services.

Assesses knowledge and skills of applicants and coordinates recommendations for employment and placement with department heads.

Participates in activities of appropriate professional organizations to enhance recruitment efforts.

Communicates the mission and philosophy of St. Dominic’s to applicants and the general public.

Demonstrates leadership skills through effective planning, time management, and resource utilization.

Understands personal and departmental role in hospital's fire, safety, and disaster plans.
